At his point everyone has heard the word Ukraine about a million times. All it takes is typing "Ukr..." and google autocorrects with hundreds of thousands of stories and statistics about the Russia-Ukraine war.
What does that have to do with me?
If you know me you know that I am very passionate for nations and especially those hurting and victims of injustice. So from the first time I heard that this conflict had risen again a few months ago, I felt a mix of rage, frustration, and powerlessness.
So I did what I do with strong emotions: I talk to God - He can take it. I don't even remember what I said, but I remember telling him "... and if there is ANYTHING I can do, use me. Amen." (you know where this is going!)
Fast forward a couple of weeks. Scrolling through instagram I saw I post by Agape+, an ICB partner that works with people in situations of homelessness. They were calling for help in Sevilla (South of Spain, an 11-hour train ride South of Barcelona) for people to donate clothes and host Ukrainian refugees.
I am not in Sevilla. But I made the impulsive decision (I know, surprise!) to sign up with a note saying "I'll help! But I'm in Barcelona". And, you know what? God takes our prayer seriously, and he uses impulsive decisions.
Two weeks later I received a call from an unknown number. It was a lady that I didn't know, who had heard from a non-profit, who had heard from the Ukrainian embassy, who had heard from Agape+ Barcelona, who had heard from Agape+ Sevilla (lost yet?) about my instagram message. Imagine my surprise! She told me there was a 23-year-old woman who had escaped and needed a place to live in and sent me her number.
And just like that, I had a new flatmate! Meet Vlada!
Meet Vlada
She is funny, smart, a little shy, introverted, a great cook, a hard worker, and deeply spiritual - she just doesn't know Jesus (yet).
Will you join me praying for her? I KNOW Jesus is calling her, seeking her. And I know this because, well, that's who Jesus is, but also because He has worked a miracle or two since she moved in - but more on that next time!
